A 70cl bottle is 700ml, so it holds exactly 28 single 25ml shots (700 ÷ 25 = 28). At the 35ml single measure common in Scotland you get 20 shots (700 ÷ 35 = 20). For doubles, a 70cl bottle gives 14 double 50ml shots (700 ÷ 50 = 14), or 10 doubles at 70ml (700 ÷ 70 = 10). A standard 70cl bottle contains 28 single measures at 25ml, 20 measures at 35ml, or 14 double measures at 50ml. A 1-litre bottle gives 40 singles at 25ml.

In England and Wales, a single spirit measure is 25ml or 35ml (your choice must be displayed). In Scotland, 35ml is more common. Doubles are 50ml or 70ml respectively.

For a general party, stock vodka, gin, whisky, and rum as the core four. Add tequila for younger crowds. Vodka is the most versatile and popular mixer spirit in the UK.

Plan for about 150ml of mixer per spirit drink. A standard 1-litre bottle of tonic or cola makes about 6-7 mixed drinks. Buy a variety: tonic, cola, lemonade, ginger ale, and soda water.
