Balloon Quantity Formula

The calculator estimates balloon count using room floor area, a balloon density per m² based on decoration style, and size adjustments for balloon type. A ceiling height factor adds extra balloons for rooms taller than 2.4 metres.

Total balloons = room area (m²) × density (balloons/m²) × size multiplier × ceiling factor

Helium Volume

Helium volume is calculated from the total balloons multiplied by the litres needed per balloon by type: approximately 14 L for a 28 cm (11 inch) latex balloon, 28 L for a 45 cm foil and around 290 L for a 90 cm (36 inch) giant latex balloon. These follow the Qualatex helium chart, where an 11 inch latex balloon takes 0.5 cu ft (≈ 14 L) and a 36 inch giant takes roughly 8 to 15 cu ft (≈ 226 to 425 L).

The balloon density figures (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 balloons per m² for minimal, moderate and lavish styles) are a venue-decoration heuristic; for arches and garlands use roughly 3 balloons per metre for a single-row arch or 26 or more per metre for a packed organic garland.

Tank Recommendation

The recommended tank size is based on total helium litres required. A small disposable canister holds about 420 L (roughly 30 × 9 inch or 14 to 16 × 11 inch latex). Hire cylinders (around 1,000 L upward) are more economical for larger events.
