How many Easter eggs per child?

For a satisfying hunt, plan 8-12 eggs per child. Under-5s need 6-8 larger, easier-to-find eggs. Older children (6+) enjoy 10-15 smaller eggs in harder hiding spots. For large groups, 8 per child keeps costs manageable. Mix sizes for interest.

How big should the hunt area be?

A small garden (20-30 sqm) works for 4-6 children. A medium garden (30-60 sqm) suits 6-12 children. For large groups (15+), use a park or large garden (100+ sqm). More space allows harder hiding spots and prevents crowding.

Where should I hide Easter eggs?

Good spots: in plant pots, under bushes, on low branches, behind garden furniture, in wellington boots, tucked under stones. For young children, keep eggs visible (on top of surfaces). For older children, hide them inside things. Avoid putting chocolate in direct sunlight or it will melt.

How do I make it fair?

Give each child a bag or basket. Set boundaries for the hunt area. For mixed ages, use colour-coded eggs (each child collects their colour). Set a time limit. Have a few golden eggs with bonus prizes. Or split into age groups with different areas.

How We Calculate This

This calculator estimates egg quantities, chocolate weight, hiding spots, and costs for your egg hunt.

Formula

Total eggs = children × eggs per child
Bags to buy = round up (total eggs ÷ eggs per bag)
Chocolate weight = total eggs × weight per egg (mini ~10 g, small ~20 g, medium ~40 g, mixed ~25 g)
Hiding spots = round up (total eggs ÷ eggs per cluster)
Egg density = total eggs ÷ garden area

The hiding-spots figure is a planning heuristic: we assume around 2–3 eggs per hiding spot (default 2.5), which you can adjust under Advanced Options. Scattered hunts use closer to 1 egg per spot; clustered caches hold several.
