Pinata Calculator — Sweets & Fillers

Allow 8-12 sweets per child. Not every child will get exactly the same amount when scrambling for sweets, so have extras. Individually wrapped sweets work best for hygiene. Mix sizes - a few larger sweets and lots of small ones for volume.

Individually wrapped sweets (Haribo, mini chocolate bars, lollipops), small toys (bouncy balls, stickers, temporary tattoos), and confetti for visual effect. Avoid unwrapped sweets (they hit the floor), very hard sweets (hurt when falling), and items too heavy for the pinata.

A small pinata holds about 500g, medium about 1kg, and large about 2kg. Do not overfill as it makes the pinata too heavy to hang safely and too difficult for young children to break. The contents should have some room to move inside.

Hang it from a strong support. Use a soft bat or stick. Keep other children well back (3 metres+). Blindfold the hitter for older children only. Let younger children hit without a blindfold. Limit each child to 3 hits. Have an adult supervise at all times.
